Helen Gammons
Helen Gammons is an experienced Music Industry executive and Entrepreneur.
Co-owning and developing business such as: the Berwick St Group 1987 -1992 - A media production company. A start up company based around an innovative central London studio, production company working with artists such as PM Dawn, Primal Scream, The Shamen, Annie Lennox, Oleta Adams, and signing Ultravox, Imagination, Bronski Beat, Eartha Kitt. The business received many awards for its work and chart successes.
In 1992 she worked for a small start up Japanese company Avex, alongside Tom (Tatsumi) Yoda who was regarded by the Times newspaper as being Japan’s answer to Richard Branson.
Avex’s success was meteoric, competing directly with Sony and Toshiba EMI. Its music publishing division Prime Direction, which Helen was directly responsible for, became No 1 in Japan and its record label became No 2, (based on market share) second only to Sony. Avex successfully floated on the Japanese stock market in 1997 and continues to grow.
Helen currently co-owns the Planet Audio Group. Current turnover is $3 million. It is Apple’s leading ‘Solution Expert’ in the UK, key markets being the professional broadcast, audio and graphics industries. www.planetaudiosystems.co.uk.
Helen provides lectures to Degree students on all aspects of the Music Industry at the Academy of Contemporary Music, bringing such brands as Coca Cola, Sony Ericsson, PRSF, Coutts Bank, Barclays Bank, Peer Music, Music week, Universal Music, Big Life, Midem into a close working relationship with the college. The academy received the Queens Award for Business Innovation in Education April 2008.
Helen has created a commercial venture Platinum Sound Publishing for the Academy to place music into synchronisation opportunities within film, TV and games, benefiting many of its students and Alumni to date.
